St Francis was born in Italy in 1182 and he was raised in a place called Assisi. St Francis came from a very rich family but he turned away from his wealth and adopted a very simple lifestyle. He founded an order of monks who showed their devotion to God giving away all their possessions and wearing plain brown clothing. He is known for his love of animals and is almost always pictured with them. He died 1226. His feast day is 4th October.
St Ignatius of Loyola
St Ignatius was born in Spain in 1491. He is best known for founding an order of priests called the Jesuits and writing many prayers and meditations. He is often shown with books or a pen in his hands. He is also the patron saint of soldiers. He died in 1556 and his feast day is July the 31st.
