At St John Fisher we strive to support our local community and parish and those less fortunate than ourselves. One way that we did this was our 'Unite and Read for Ukraine' appeal. For our Lenten Appeal in 2022 we wanted to raise money for the people of Ukraine. The pupils and staff at St John Fisher and the Parish of St John Fisher got together to demonstrate support for Ukraine by 'uniting and reading'. Whilst the pupils and staff read, they collected donations for this cause. We raised an amazing £4,189.47!
As a school, we also gave all pupils some sunflower seeds, so that they could grow sunflowers (the national flower of Ukraine) as another way to show their support for Ukraine.

For our Harvest Appeal in 2024 we wanted to support our local foodbank. The pupils and staff at St John Fisher got together to demonstrate support for our local community. Families kindly donated food, which we then collated and donated to the Wimbledon Foodbank.

At St John Fisher we strive to support our local community and parish and those less fortunate than ourselves. One way that we did this was our 'Poppy' appeal. For Remembrance Day we supported and collected for the Royal British Legion. The pupils and staff at St John Fisher got together to demonstrate support for those who have fought and lost their lives in the past and for those fighting in our world today. Pupils spent their money on poppies and bracelets, slap bands and pins. We were delighted to raise £808.18p! Thank you all for your kind donations.
We also held a 2 minutes silence at 11 o'clock, we listened to 'The Last Post' and we all paused to reflect and remember those who have lost their lives and those currently fighting a war in the present day. Each child made a poppy and we laid them and two wreaths in the front garden of the school.

At St John Fisher we strive to support our local community and parish and those less fortunate than ourselves. One way that we are doing this is our 'Big Lent Walk' appeal. For our Lenten Appeal in 2023, we wanted to raise money for CAFOD. We are supporting CAFOD and joining other schools around the country to help support our global neighbours.
To raise money, we’re going to walk around our school footsteps 200 times in 40 days of Lent. You can also join in by walking 200km in 40 days! You can do this by sharing the distance with other family members or by taking on the 200km challenge by yourself.
How our fundraising will help
CAFOD is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, working together with people living in poverty in some of the most hard-to-reach places in the world.
Our fundraising will support people like Dristy. She lives in a small village in Bangladesh – one of the most at-risk countries from the effects of the climate crisis. Dristy says that cyclones and floods are becoming more frequent for the people there.
Dristy’s mum, Rupali, works side by side with her, teaching her how to plant lots of different crops; how to build seed beds that won’t get flooded, what trees to plant to protect the village from cyclones; and how to use discarded household items to grow saplings.
Our fundraising will give more families like Dristy and Rupali’s the tools and training they need to grow in strength and fight the effects of the climate crisis.
We have chosen to support CAFOD as a way for our pupils to put their faith into action. By raising money together, we will be supporting our brothers and sisters around the world and living out our school mission.

Wimbledon Foodbank have written to school to express their thanks for the amazing support which SJF provided during our Harvest collection. Thanks to your generosity they were able to help many families who faced difficulties over Christmas and the new year.
As we are all aware, the cost of living increase has had an impact on everyone including those most in need, with UK foodbanks seeing a decrease in donations by over a third.
With that in mind, we will be having an Easter Foodbank collection with donations going to Wimbledon Foodbank. They would ask for donations of long life food and if possible some Easter treats for children living in poverty. We recognise that with the cost of food so high, many are not able to donate as much as they used to, but it really is a case of every little bit helps so please give what you can. The collection will take place in school from Monday 20th – Friday 24th March.

The Voices of Tomorrow (VOTs) at St John Fisher have made links with 'Community Senior Letters' and have begun writing to the elderly residents at a care home. Forming these links and relationships are very important and we hope that the elderly residents get as much out of it as the pupils at St John Fisher.

At St John Fisher we strive to support our local community and parish. One way that we do this is our 'Boxes of Love'. The pupils prepare a box for Christmas, full of gifts that are then donated to members of our parish. They write a personal note to the person receiving the gift and they choose the items to put in the box. This is one of many ways, that St John Fisher demonstrate love and kindness to others in our local community and parish.
This Lent, as a school we are supporting the Catholic Children's Society Lent Appeal which is inspired by Pope Francis’ call for young people to use their voice to make a difference in the world. Our pupils are involved in a range of activities to help them think about how they can use their voice to bring positive change. They have planned a range of fundraising events such as a soup kitchen for a Lenten lunch, bake sales and book mark making. Watch this space for regular updates of how they are doing!
On Wednesday 27th March, we are joining together with other Catholic schools to show our support for the work of the Catholic Children’s Society. At SJF, pupils and staff will contribute £1 to wear something purple to increase the funds we raise to help the CCS support even more disadvantaged children and families.

St John Fisher RC Primary School is affiliated to the St John Fisher RC Church, Merton. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark, in the Deanery of Merton.
Father Francis and Father Joseph come into St John Fisher school regularly to lead mass with the children, and also to spend time chatting with them. The children also attend mass at the church. This is all linked to our whole school plan for Collective Worship.
Father Francis and Father Joseph are active members of St John Fisher and are involved in daily school life. Father Francis is also a member of our Spiritual, Ethos and Well-being committee (SEW), supporting St John Fisher as a community and as individuals when needed. Father Francis is also a member of our Governing Body.
As a school, we are delighted to visit St John Fisher RC Church for special services throughout the year and many of the children go to visit at different times through their RE topics, when it is appropriate.
We also do visits to St George's Cathedral with different year groups, depending on their topic and what they are learning about. Our school chaplaincy team (a range of pupils from Year 5 and Year 6) are actively involved in promoting and supporting the spiritual life of the church, through different activities in school.
Our pupils actively work to support our local community through different fund-raising and charity events during the year. Whilst working on their own well-being and learning to reflect and look after themselves and each other, pupils also focus on considering our local community and how we can support them too.
